What is a Free Search versus a Detailed Search?

To determine if your name is listed in our database, you will need to do a free search on our homepage. A Free Search allows you to check as many names as you like, totally free of charge, to determine whether there is any unclaimed money available under those names. Once you have found your name, a Detailed Search is the next step in the process of claiming your money. After purchasing a membership with Found Money, you will able to login to our Member’s Area to start your Detailed Search. This is where you will receive all of the account details and contact information necessary for you or your family members to claim the money you find.

Return to Questions

How many different names can I search?

You may search for any name you like. Our account records date as far back as the early 1900’s, so you can even search the names of your deceased relatives. You can search as many names as you wish.

Return to Questions

Can I search for just my family name?

Yes. When you begin your search, enter your family name in the "Last Name" box, and leave the "First Name" box empty. Then you click the "Click Here to Begin Your Free Search" button and you will see a list of all the accounts with your last name. Please note that with common names there may be hundreds of matches, which may result in very slow loading, especially with older browsers and slower Internet connections.

Return to Questions

What does the letter or abbreviation after my name mean?

Some of the names listed will have a middle initial with them. If there is no middle name or initial, then it was not provided to us with the account details. Occasionally, a name will be followed by various abbreviations. It’s helpful to know that the way that names are listed in our database, are posted, as they were when the original account was created. If you do not recognize middle initials, or abbreviations, then chances are it belongs to someone with the same name since you did not use those with your own name.

What do I receive with my membership?

In addition with your searches you will also receive a complimentary unclaimed money monitor for one full year from the date of your purchase for each name that you search. This is a limited time offer, free of charge, valued at $12.99. See Service Details

Return to Questions

Can I just buy one search?

Return to Questions

Do you have any charges over and above the Membership fee?

No. Once you have paid our Search fee, any funds found by you are yours. We never have and never will charge any other commission or finder fees.

Return to Questions

What type of information will I receive after performing a Detailed Search or calling the Live Operator Search?

Once you have requested further details using any of the payment methods, in most cases you will receive the account holder’s full name and previous address, the year in which the account was last contacted, the nature of the funds, the amount in the account, and instructions on how to retrieve the funds.

Return to Questions

What does Undisclosed Amount mean?

For SEARCH RESULTS that appear "Amount Undisclosed" they are valid unclaimed money and/or property records which represent either:

  • An account held by a State Agency which does not release the dollar value
  • An account without a fixed cash value such as shares of stock, safety deposit box contents, wills, etc.
  • The State Agency holding the account will only disclose the actual amount to the rightful owner.

In cases where people have similar or identical names, the only way to be certain whether or not the unclaimed account listed belongs to you is to Purchase a Membership, conduct a Detailed Search and submit a claim form for that unclaimed account.

My credit card shows a charge, but I have no searches. Why?

Occasionally your card may show a charge, which is in fact a preauthorization charge your bank has place on your account, at this point no money has been withdrawn from your credit card. Your bank's automated system will approve or decline the transaction based on the information you have entered. If you enter an invalid billing address while this transaction is requested, a preauthorization charge is displayed on your account. This does not mean that our company has received these funds; it means you attempted one or more transactions and your card was declined. More often than not, it is because the credit card billing address you entered on our site did not match the address on file with your bank. When you have a preauthorization charge, it may stay on your account readout for several days, depending on your bank's policy. When it is deemed that the transaction is not fully completed, the preauthorization charge is removed and the funds are returned to your account.

This is a standard process with banks that issue debit cards, which are also used as credit cards. To determine the exact reasoning for the decline and/or error, you will need to contact your bank directly. Once the problem is resolved, you may register with FoundMoney again, using the correct information.
